Use:Soxhlet extraction, also known as continuous extraction , is a method for extracting compounds from solid material. Soxhlet extractors are often used for the determination of crude fat content.,Which is determined by extracting the fat from the sample using a solvent, then determining the weight of the fat recovered. The Soxhlet extraction method is widely used at home and abroad, of which the Soxhlet extractor method is a recognized classic method, and it is also the preferred standard method for grain and oil analysis.
Principle: Using the solvent reflux and siphon principle ,the soxhlet extractor can continuously extract the solid matter by pure solvent, which saves the solvent extraction efficiency. In this discontinuous extraction process, the extraction solvent inside the boiling flask is evaporated and re-condensed in the allihn condenser above. It then falls down onto the solid material requiring extraction. When the liquid level of the solvent under reflux in the extraction chamber exceeds the siphon tube of the Soxhlet extractor, the solvent in the extraction chamber flows back to the round bottom flask, and siphoning occurs. As the temperature rises, the reflux starts again. Before each siphon, the solid material can be extracted by pure hot solvent. The solvent is reused and the extraction time is shortened, so the extraction efficiency is higher.
